Boro sign Calvin Zola on a free and spend £25,000 on Braintree defender Dean Wells

Stevenage have signed Calvin Zola.

The striker, who counts Oldham Athletic and Newcastle United among his former clubs, scored three goals in 19 appearances for the Scottish Premier side last season before having his contract cancelled by the club earlier this month.

The striker joins fellow new recruit Dean Wells at Boro after the 29-year-old defender signed from Braintree Town for £25,000.

The club says it had to ‘fight hard against other local League 2 clubs’ for the former Brentford defender who has signed a one-year deal with the option of another 12 months.
