Two Christmas concerts will be held on Saturday to raise money for a charity which gives food to people in desperate need.
Stevenage Ladies’ Choir will be performing at St Hugh and St John Church on Mobbsbury Way in Stevenage in aid of Foodshed.
The charity is part of the Stevenage Vineyard church and people are asked to fill paper bags with food listed on the front of the bags, which are then given to people in the town struggling to make ends meet.
Nicole Vaughton, the choir’s concert co-ordinator, said: “The choir chose this charity because its simple mission struck a chord with the ladies.
“The festive period can be particularly hard and stressful for some, especially if they are struggling, so we wanted to support this cause and give something back if we can.
“If we can spread some Christmas cheer along the way, then that’s even better.
“As our Christmas concert is our most popular of the year, we have decided to hold two this year so that as many people as possible can come along, start to feel festive and help us raise as much as possible for this great cause.”

The first concert will be held at 3pm, when Stevenage Ladies’ Choir will be joined by the Hertfordshire Youth Choir, and the second performance will be held at 7pm, when the ladies’ choir will be joined by pupils from Hartsfield JMI Primary School in Baldock.
Nicole said: “We’ll be singing a mixture of Christmas carols and classic Christmas songs, like Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year.
“We’ve also been hard at work rehearsing some new pieces ready for Saturday, so that we can give a fun and entertaining couple of concerts.”
As well as singing, there will also be light refreshments served – including mince pies – a raffle and a visit from Father Christmas.
Tickets are £8 for adults and £6 for concessions. They can be purchased by calling the choir’s secretary, Mary Sabine, on 07967 402138, or by visiting stevenageladieschoir.co.uk.
