Stevenage FC have had a busy transfer window with 14 players coming in the door and the same number departing – read our comprehensive CometSport round-up on all the comings and goings at the Lamex during the summer.
Boro started the window with the arrival of two youngsters.
Alex Samuel joined the club on a free transfer from Premier League side Swansea City on May 9.
The young attacker signed a two-year deal with Stevenage following an impressive loan spell at Newport County in 2016-17 as he helped the Welsh side stay in the Football League.
James Ferry was next to arrive at The Lamex Stadium.
The 20-year-old midfielder also signed a two-year contract after leaving Championship club Brentford.
Stevenage announced their released list on the same day, with some notable exits confirmed.
Fan favourites Charlie Lee and Dean Wells were among those allowed to leave the club, with Michael Tonge, Andrew Fox, Jake Hyde and Nathan Kerr also shown the door.
More than a month past before Boro would complete their next bit of business with midfielder Harry Beautyman signing on June 15.
Having been released by Northampton Town, the 25-year-old joined on a free transfer with the length of his contract not disclosed.
Just four days later and Darren Sarll dipped into the transfer market again, bringing in non-league sensation Danny Newton.
The striker was coming off the back of a 28 goal season with Tamworth and had spent time with Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy.
Stevenage fended off interest from other Football League club including Coventry City to sign the 26-year-old on a two-year deal.
June 27 saw a double deal completed by Boro.
The club pulled off a real coup to sign left-back Joe Martin on a free transfer from Millwall following their promotion to the Championship.
Martin would add much needed experience to a young squad as well as winning mentality after making 28 appearances for the Lions in their successful 2016-17 campaign.
Blair Turgott was also signed from Bromley.
A former West Ham academy graduate, the 23-year-old winger impressed in the National League scoring 12 goals during the 2016-17 season.
The arrival of Martin signalled the end of Kgosi Nthle’s Stevenage career.
The South African was released the following day having made 22 starts in his one season at The Lamex Stadium. He would eventually sign for League One side Rochdale.
With goalkeeper Jamie Jones’ future still uncertain as negotiations over a new contract continue, Sarll signed a potential replacement on June 29.
Joe Fryer joined the club on a season long loan from Middlesbrough having caught the eye during a temporary spell at Hartlepool United last season.
The 21-year-old shot stopper couldn’t save the club from relegation to the National League but his performances were enough to earn him a move to Hertfordshire.
July 15 saw the temporary departure of a highly-rated defender with Northern Ireland under 21 international Ryan Johnson making a season long loan switch to Boreham Wood.
Terence Vancooten became Stevenage’s eight summer addition on July 18 when he arrived from Reading.
The 19-year-old Dutchman – capable of playing anywhere across the back four – had been on trial with the club and impressed enough to earn himself a permanent deal.
Following extensive negotiations, Jobi McAnuff left Stevenage to return to former club Leyton Orient on July 20 – joining up with Charlie Lee who had also signed with London club.
The Jamaican international spent just one season at the club and scored four times in 31 League Two appearances.
Following the departure of 35-year-old McAnuff, another senior player left Boro on July 24.
Steve Schumacher ended a two year association with the club and dropped down a couple of divisions to join Southport.
The 33-year-old midfielder is now combining his playing role with a coaching job at first club Everton.
It would turn out to be a busy week of business for Boro as another departed but an old hero made his return.
Attacker Dipo Akinyemi – a favourite of former manager Teddy Sheringham – was allowed to leave the club on loan.
The 20-year-old joined Bishop Stortford on July 26 and he will remain their for the duration of this season.
Many supporters were sad to see fan favourite Chris Whelpdale depart for AFC Wimbledon in the summer of 2016.
Just a year later, the midfielder returned to The Lamex Stadium.
Whelpdale signed a one-year deal with Darren Sarll’s side on July 28 to add a second chapter to his Boro story.
Stevenage completed their tenth summer signing on August 2 with the arrival of a promising young centre-back.
Kevin Lokko signed from Maidstone United for an undisclosed fee with the 21-year-old England C international seen as one for the future.
He would join National League side Dagenham & Redbridge on a season long loan two days later to play regular first-team football.
August 7 was a case of one in, one out for Boro.
Jamie Jones failed to agree a new deal with the club after protracted negotiations and he departed for Wigan Athletic, signing a one-year contract with the League One side.
Following the termination of his contract at local rival Luton Town, Darren Sarll swooped to secure the signature of midfielder Jonathan Smith.
The 30 year old’s experience and past success – winning promotion with both Swindon Town and Luton – drew the Stevenage boss to Smith as he looked to solidify the middle of the park.
Rowan Liburd was next to leave on August 18, joining Hemel Hempstead Town on a short-term loan after failing to hold down a regular first-team spot at The Lamex Stadium.
Sarll dipped into the loan market for the second time in the window on August 24 to secure the services of Kevin Toner.
The towering centre half agreed a season long loan deal with Stevenage, having spent time at both Walsall FC and Bradford City last season.
The 21-year-old Irishman also has four Premier League appearances to his name, having played for already-relegated Villa at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
Heading into transfer deadline day, Darren Sarll was looking to secure at least two loan signings.
The first to arrive was Charlie Wakefield.
Signed from Chelsea for the remainder of the season, the winger will join up with Boro at the end of September when he has recovered from injury.
The 19-year-old plays as a winger.
Striker Kyle Wootton was the second deal of the day and Stevenage final piece of transfer window business.
The towering 20-year-old joins from Scunthorpe United on loan until January having previously had temporary spells at Lincoln City, North Ferriby United and Cheltenham Town – for whom he scored two goals in 16 games last season.
