MORE than 4 million of Government funding will be ploughed into Stevenage to help reduce housing waiting lists and boost the construction industry.
Last week housing Minister John Healey announced the release of 290 million to build almost 5,500 affordable homes across the country.
Stevenage has been allocated 4,022,148 to build four home ownership units and 82 properties for rent.
As part of an exemplar low carbon project, 314,000 of this money has been allocated to build eight homes for affordable rent on Cotney Croft and Peartree Way.
Mr Healey said: "We're providing new homes for families across the country and helping first time buyers take their first step onto the housing ladder.
"We're using investment to support the construction industry at a time of recession when it needs it most, providing the means to help get the market moving again.
"I'm determined to keep building homes in the months ahead, with further cash to come for councils, housing associations and developers.
