A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car overturned and ended up on its roof in Stevenage during the early hours of this morning.

Police received a report at 1.08am of a blue Ford Focus overturning in Gunnels Wood Road at the junction with Fairlands Way.

A male occupant, believed to be the driver, was said to have made off from the scene on police arrival but was later detained by officers.

One lane was closed on the roundabout while the car was recovered, and the road fully reopened at about 5.30am.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink driving. He was taken to hospital as a precaution, but is now in police custody while investigations continue.
