A DAY centre for carers has been burgled for the third time in three years.

Burglars forced their way into the Crossroads Care Day Centre in Stevenage by smashing a window at some point between 4.30pm last Wednesday and 9.50am last Thursday. An empty safe was taken and found near the centre in Broad Oak Way.

It is the third burglary in as many years after a similar break-in during June 2011 and an incident two months earlier where offenders forced open a door before stealing a television and Nintendo Wii console.

Chris Chambers, care manager at Crossroads Care Hertfordsire North, the Comet’s Charity of the Year, said: “It is disappointing that the Stevenage day centre, used by local elderly and vulnerable people, has been broken into for the third time.

“Nothing of value is kept on the premises and the only item taken – an empty safe – was quickly recovered. We would urge local residents to be vigilant and keep an eye out to avoid a repeat of the incident.”
