People living in Stevenage are currently being targeted by a council tax scam, and a warning has been issued by Neighbourhood Watch not to fall for the con.

Using OWL - the Online Watch Link used by Herts police and local Neighbourhood Watch coordinators to communicate with thousands of watch members across the county, watch liason officer Verity Soued said: “It has come to our attention that a number of Stevenage residents have received phone calls claiming to be from Stevenage Borough Council letting them know they have council tax refunds due.

“These phone calls are a scam – please do not to give any personal information out over the phone.

“If you are unsure about whether you have received a genuine call from Stevenage Borough Council about your council tax call 01438 242 875 to confirm whether or not a refund is due.”
