A charity which transforms shipping containers into libraries for deprived African communities is appealing for help.

Just Be A Child was set up by Stevenage resident Lenka McAlinden in 2013 following a trip to Kenya. It supports children living in the country through various projects, including building playgrounds and libraries.

The charity has so far established two libraries and volunteers are now needed to help with a third.

Lenka said: “On May 24 we need people to help load our 40ft container. It will then set sail and become the new library.

“The children we deal with in Kenya hardly ever get to read. With your help we are changing that and, with every book and every child that gets to read it, their future is altered, their world is expanded and their education gets much better.

“Without you we couldn’t continue to build libraries in Kenya.”

If you can help, email info@justbeachild.com or call Lenka on 07737 500501.
