Darren Sarll has bolstered Stevenage’s attacking options ahead of the new season by signing Ebbsfleet United striker Matthew Godden.

The 24-year-old netted more than 30 goals for The Fleet last season, including three hat-tricks, only to see his side miss out on promotion after they were beaten on penalties by Maidstone United in the play-off final.

He was described last term by Ebbsfleet boss Daryl McMahon, a former Stevenage midfielder, as the best striker in non-league football.

Stevenage struggled for a consistent goalscorer last term with Chris Whelpdale, a winger, their top scorer with just nine.

Boro used nine loan strikers last season and boss Darren Sarll has spoken on a number of occasions about the need to bolster his front line ahead of the new season.
