The chief executive of Stevenage Borough Council has revealed he plans to retire next summer after 26 years at the helm.

Nick Parry has told councillors that he is stepping down, with the aim to have a successor in place before the elections in May next year.

He also revealed that a recruitment process is likely to take place in February 2015 with one of the three other existing directors expected to take the post and no one else appointed to replace them – saving the council money.
