A specialist nursery is moving to a larger building which can support more children with autism.
The Tracks early years centre on Mobbsbury Way in Stevenage currently supports eight children aged three to five with autism and related conditions which affect communication skills.
But fundraising efforts totalling £340,000 has enabled the nursery to buy a former office building,on Bolton Road, which will be converted into a state-of-the-art facility – increasing capacity.
The building will include a wet room and a break-out area for parents.
Tracks chairman Mervyn Terrett said: “This building offers four times the space inside and three times the space outside which will be fantastic for the kids.
“Moving here will enable us to provide better care to more children which is fantastic. It’s been a lot of work to set it all up but we’re in the final stages of signing over the freehold and expect the builders to move in to start converting it in the next six to eight weeks.”
Tracks principal Sara Campbell added: “Moving to the new office will mean we can provide even better support for these children and help them to learn the skills that will enable them to live in a normal society. Our government funding has been completely cut and we have funded this completely with donations which is incredible. I would just like to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated and helped us raise this money.”
The move is due to take place at the end of October.
