Firefighters used four beaters and two hosereels this afternoon to put out a large field fire, which is being treated as suspicious.

An engine each from Stevenage and Baldock & Letchworth fire stations attended after being called to the field in Weston at about 3.40pm, and initially tackled the blaze with a hosereel and two beaters before doubling the equipment.

An area covering about 300 metres by 50 metres was on fire, and the fire service said the cause of the fire was ‘doubtful’.

The blaze was out by 4.50pm.
