Stevenage v MK Dons match updates

Stevenage 0 MK Dons 0 - full time

Boro face a trip to Stadium:mk after they failed to break the Dons’ defence in this afternoon’s FA Cup match.

Stacy Long had the best chance in the opening six minutes, but hit his shot from 12 yards straight at David Martin.

The game was one of few chances, and although Boro will be pleased with their fourth clean sheet in succession they will not be pleased at their inability to score for three of those games, including today’s match.

Match action:

5 mins – Jay O’Shea plays a ball down the left, inside the defender. Scott Laird runs on into the box, pulls it back. Ben May steps over it and Stacy Long, unmarked, hits a shot straight at David Martin from 12 yards. Either side of this effort, both Michael Bostwick and Long had long-range efforts blocked.

17 - O’Shea is spoken to by referee Rob Lewis after going in late on Stephen Gleeson. No cards are produced.

21 – John Mousinho gives the ball away in midfield and MK Dons break. Sam Baldock takes the ball to the edge of the box, pulls it inside and sens a cross in to Peter Leven who chests it and tries an overhead kick. The ball is cleared, and Boro break up the other end in a move which ends with Long shooting straight at Davide Martin from 20 yards.

22- A free kick by Gleeson is passed inside to Peter Leven who tries his luck from all of 30 yards. The left-footed effort goes over the crossbar, and Day would have had it covered.

25- Dons catch Boro out at a corner with Stacy Long left marking two players. The ball finds its way to Balanta who slices his 20-yard effort so wide it actually goes out for a throw-in.

45 – Wilson runs down the right, and sends in a cross which Ben May heads over from inside the box. The wide mans need to do more of that in the second half.

47- Lewis Guy puts the ball into the box but it’s behind Peter Leven who can only flick a leg at it as he’s running towards goal. The ball is flicked up to Sam Baldock who is running in at the far post, and his header back towards goal is headed clear by Jon Ashton.

57 – The ball is played into the box and Sam Baldock skips past Mark Roberts far too easily. He pulls the ball back into the centre of the box, but Laird gets a touch on it ahead the sliding attacker and the ball is cleared. Baldock then gets a foot on the end of a cross from Angelo Balanta, but it’s a soft touch and Day gathers in the Boro goal.

59 - Boro bring on Yemi Odubade and Rob Sinclair for Stacy Long and Lawrie Wilson.

64 – Angelo Balanta shoots wide of Day’s goal from 20yards

65- O’Shea collects the ball just inside the Dons box on the left. He tries to shake off his marker, pulls it back to Mousinho who slips as he shoots. The balls curls towards the bottom corner only for Martin to get down low and push it wide for a corner.

73 – Michael Bostwick loses the midfield and the visitors break. Angelo Balanta is the man who runs forward with the ball and he plays it past Mark Roberts but a little too wide for Jemal Johnson who has to chase it down, and turn into the box. He shoots low, with Balanta screaming for the pass, but he drags it wide.

90 – Jemel Johnson shoots high and not particularly handsome from 25 yards.
