Places for the event – which is in its 31st year and organised by North Herts Road Runners – sold out in record time more than two months ago, and had a waiting list of 300 people keen to join the 1,600 entrants.

Garden City Samba, a kids fun run and added charity fundraising provided entertainment for spectators and runners following the main event.

Race director Richard Harbon from NHRR said: “The atmosphere was just fantastic this year. Our race marshals said everyone out on the course – runners and spectators alike – was really positive.

“It was just a great day for the local community.”

Entrants to this year’s race were given the option to donate to North Herts Road Runners’ two charities – Jackie’s Drop-in based in Letchworth and Tracks Autism, which has an early years centre in Stevenage.
