A TEENAGER was stabbed with a piece of glass at a summer music event.

Organisers of Rock in the Park in Fairlands Valley Park, Stevenage, said they were upset and disappointed that the event, enjoyed by so many, was marred by the incident.

A 19-year-old man was hurt after a fight broke out within the crowd close to where young families were watching the bands on Sunday at 7pm.

Ron Walker, chairman of the committee which organised the event, said: "It is sad that one foolish person has to spoil a day which hundreds of others enjoyed.

"We were aware something was going on in the crowd. We responded to that and put our emergency plans into practice. The police were called and attended swiftly."

He said he hoped the incident would not affect the possibility of another Rock in the Park next year.

He said: "It was just unfortunate the incident occurred."

The glassing meant headliners Gekko's set was cut short but organiser Jane Tobitt said the rest of the event went well.

She said: "There were a lot of people there and they had a really nice afternoon of entertainment.

"All the bands played out of their skins, the atmosphere was really good, everyone was happy.

"We had a huge fun fair and the kids had a whale of a time. The whole day was a wonderful family event."

* A 29-year-old was arrested and released on bail to attend Stevenage police station in July.
