Worthy recipients who have been named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours List are getting set for their big day at the palace – and now it’s time to start drawing up the Comet’s annual parade of pride.

It’s not easy to get someone’s name included on the national honours list and the process is shrouded in secrecy – but here at the number one newspaper for Stevenage and North Herts we aim to make things much simpler.

The recipients of this year’s Comet Community Awards are very much down to you – because every year readers single out unsung heroes and sterling supporters who deserve a pat on the back.

With the help of our generous sponsors, we’re aiming to present a total of 13 awards when the winners are revealed at a gala ceremony at plush Stevenage town centre venue The Forum on Friday, May 15.

Just take a look at the categories and get your thinking caps on:

Comet editor John Francis, who met some of the sponsors at a launch breakfast event on Monday, said: “I’m really looking forward to my first Comet Community Awards.

“I’ve been involved in similar awards schemes in other towns, but everyone tells me that the Comet event is bigger and better.

“And I’m also told that Comet readers can’t wait to sing the praises of the people who help to make our communities tick – so please visit the website, fill out the simple form, and give our judges a really hard job to do when they meet later this year!”
