WHISPERING dishes have been added to a school playground to give pupils an exciting adventure into sound and how it travels.

The dishes, which look like satellite dishes and magnify sound when spoken into, have been bought with a £5,000 donation from Three Valleys Water and the Hertfordshire Community Foundation.

The new equipment is part of an ongoing project to create a stimulating playground area for Lonsdale School, Stevenage, which caters for pupils with special educational needs.

Local MP Barbara Follett made a visit to the school to see the latest pieces of equipment in action.

She said: "Lonsdale School is one of Stevenage's hidden treasures and it is great to see the children encouraged to play outside in the fresh air."

Hilary Oughton, business manager at Lonsdale, said: "The playground is an ongoing project that we are doing in stages.
