Network Rail is restricting trains operating north of Royston this evening due to a forecast for heavy snow.

The changes to Great Northern services will see trains north of Royston towards Cambridge and King’s Lynn finishing early this evening and starting up later than usual tomorrow morning.

Fewer trains will run between King’s Lynn and Cambridge in the morning and evening peaks.

There will be a reduction of two trains per hour between King’s Cross and Ely via Cambridge throughout Tuesday.

This could all have a knock-on effect of delays and cancellations on other parts of the network as trains and drivers will be out of position.

A spokesperson for Great Northern said: “We urge passengers travelling to and from stations north of Royston on our Cambridge and King’s Lynn routes to check before they travel and start their journeys earlier. Do not rely on the last trains home to this area which will leave earlier and will be very busy.

“The Peterborough route and Hertford suburban services are unaffected but there are also likely to be short notice alterations and cancellations due to drivers and trains being out of position for the normal service.”
