A nosey dog almost certainly saved the life of this affectionate cat which RSPCA staff have named Walsworth.
The cat was discovered entombed in a sealed box on Walsworth Common, Hitchin, when a dog, being taken for a walk refused to leave it.
"The box was sealed with tape and had been dumped on the common," said Pat Trussell, secretary of the local RSPCA group.
"It was a wicked thing to do. Walsworth is a beautiful cat that would have had a horrible death had this dog not come along and its owner opened the box.
"Walsworth was very hungry and has been treated by a vet and is now recovering at a cattery in Arlesey. She has only recently had kittens and now we fear something awful might have happened to them.
