A swarm of bees brought a Stevenage street to a standstill this morning.
The bees landed on a balcony of flats in Queensway in the town centre near the Nationwide office.
Pedestrians and workers were prevented from going down the short thoroughfare and staff at 20 shops were kept away from their place of work for an hour and a half.
People living in the flats above the shops were told to keep their windows closed while pest control experts were sent to remove the swarm by Stevenage Borough Council.
Rayna Heller, manager of Snobs unisex hair salon, said: "There were a lot of bees around last night when I left work and I legged it to get away from them.
"This morning the bees were attached to one of the balconies but even after they were cleared by the council there were still a lot buzzing around.
