A SIX-year-old boy suffered injuries when a man attempted to abduct him, police have revealed.

The child was approached by a man between 6pm and 6.45pm on Monday near the front of his house on The Ridgeway in Stevenage.

The man attempted to talk to the child but he managed to run away alerting family and neighbours. But during the struggle the child slightly injured his neck and elbow.

The man was seen driving off in a small dark coloured car which had the front bumper missing.

He has been described as being of black or Asian appearance, around 5ft 6in tall with collar length black hair and a long fringe. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a white vest underneath, black trousers and black and red trainers.

Detective constable Mark Dunford from the area crime unit said: "Although incidents of this nature are rare, this was very distressing for both child and the family.

"We are urging any witnesses from the area who may have seen either the man described or the car in the area at the relevant times to call the police."
