IN EIGHT weeks time thousands of women will put on their running shoes to raise vital cash for cancer sufferers

On July 13 women or all ages and abilities will take part in the Race for Life at Fairlands Valley Park in Stevenage.

The UK's largest women only fundraising event will see mums, daughters, sisters and friends walk, jog or run a 5k course at the park and over 2,000 women have already signed up.

With demand so high an extra race is being held in the afternoon at 2.30pm and places are still available.

The event is expected to raise more than £250,000 in sponsorship which will help support Cancer Research UK's 4,250 scientists, doctors and nurses based throughout the UK.

Cancer Research UK's event manager Kate Francklow said: "I am overwhelmed that the Stevenage morning event has filled so quickly.

"Race for Life is such an inspiring and emotional day where women of all ages and abilities come together to make a real difference.

"But for those women who think they have missed out, the good news is that there are still places left at the afternoon event."

Comet reporter Louise McEvoy, who took part in last year's event, said: "I would encourage anyone to take part. There was a fantastic atmosphere at last year's event and everyone had fun whilst raising funds for a vital cause."
