The London to Brighton Veteran car run last Sunday saw Shuttleworth Collection’s 1903 De Dietrich take part to commemorate the Emancipation Run of November 1896.
The veteran car run is the longest running motoring event in the world, celebrating the passing into law of the Locomotives on the Highway Act. The annual drive provides a rare opportunity for these vehicles to make the historic 60-mile journey from Hyde Park to the seafront.
Every year, more than 400 examples of pre-1905 manufactured cars enter to mark the quality of engineering of early motoring.
This year the De Dietrich was crewed by volunteers and engineers from The Shuttleworth Collection,
Vehicle collection manager Stuart Gray said: “Our mission as the Shuttleworth vehicle team is to restore these cars to as close as their original work specification as possible. The De Dietrich has been has been returned to its original low tension ignition system.”
