SULU Newell may have shattered a glass ceiling as she beat off a number of male competitors to become Letchworth GC’s town crier.
She triumphed in a competition on Saturday which launched the Letchworth Festival.
It was judged by master town crier Alan Myatt.
Festival committee member Roger Harrison said: “Well done to Sulu on her win. We’ll now have to find out if any other towns have got a female crier – this could be a first.
“Anyway, it was all good fun and, together with the colourful dancers on Leys Square, it got our festival off to a flying start.”
