Several shops have been left without power after an electricity cable was severed in Leys Avenue, Letchworth GC, today.
The incident happened at 8.20am while contractors working for the Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation were working.
Engineers from Skanska are currently trying to repair the fault.
But Ellen Diamant from R & E Family Butchers in Leys Avenue said: "I have �10,000 worth of meat in the shop and if the power is not on in six hours we could lose the lot."
Dilip Shah at Esquires Coffee Shop said: "I only have power in part of the shop. I have no lights or power in the fridge or the toilets.
