A supermarket played host to National No Smoking Day yesterday and encouraged shoppers to stub out the habit.

The ASDA store in Biggleswade had a visit from NHS Direct which is based in Sandy to try and persuade smokers to stop.

Leanne Kennedy, the stop smoking special adviser for NHS Direct, was on hand to offer advice as well as give smokers the chance to test their carbon monoxide levels in their breath and try to encourage them to quit and take a breath of fresh air instead.
