Shoppers were out in force on Thursday of last week when Wilko opened its doors in Biggleswade.

Queues to the new A1 Retail park store began forming shortly after 7am with more than 110 customers keen to get a first look at the new Wilko store and take away free goodies.

The first 100 customers received a range of products as part of the big ticket giveaway, from gift cards to food mixers and smoothie makers, before a ceremonial ribbon cutting was led by Biggleswade Mayor John Albone.

Throughout the day customers were invited to take part in a tombola competition, and more than 30 people were the lucky recipients of hand blenders, food mixers, smoothie makers and kitchen scales.

Wilko Biggleswade branch manager Sarah Heald said: “We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiasm of the local people, it’s a very positive start to our residence here in Biggleswade and we can’t wait to welcome more of the community.”
