MORE than half the respondents to the annual Stevenage Shopper Survey said they had seen an improvement in the town centre.

And the recent completion of the new paving, street furniture and lighting by Stevenage Borough Council, as well as the comprehensive range of events and activities organised by the Town Centre Initiative, was seen as undoubtedly helping the town's image.

With Stevenage now on the cusp of a £500m redevelopment, the town centre will once again be the premier shopping destination in Hertfordshire, believes town centre manager Tracey Parry.

The shopper survey offers prizes and the winning entry was recently drawn by the new member of the Stevenage Town Centre Management team, Becky Spencer.

Mrs Amanda Feagan, a Stevenage resident, was the first name out of the bag and she was presented on Monday with £150 shopping vouchers for the Westgate Centre by Ms Parry.

Three other Stevenage residents collected runner-up prizes of £50 gift vouchers from Marks & Spencer.

"This is the seventh year running that we have undertaken this survey", said Ms Parry, "And we have once again received several hundred responses."

The results of the survey will be used to help decide the priorities for action by the Stevenage Town Centre Management Company - a partnership between businesses in Stevenage and Stevenage Borough Council and a copy of this report will be available on the Stevenage Town Centre's website shortly.
