THIEVES have stolen a large number of shoes and a safe from a retail outlet in Stevenage.

Shoe Fayre, on Queensway in Stevenage, was burgled sometime between 6.15pm on Friday and 8am on Saturday.

The offenders gained entry to the shop at the rear of the property and carried out a search of all three floors.

They stole a large number of shoes and a safe, which contained a quantity of cash.

A spokesman for Herts Police said: "We would like to appeal to anyone who believes they may have seen or heard any suspicious behaviour in the area, or in the shop, during these times.

"The offenders would have had a vehicle of some sort to enable them to take all the shoes and the safe, and we are keen to find out more about this.

"We would also appeal to anyone who may have seen someone selling brand new, unboxed shoes of various types."
