The Shefford Duck Race marked its 20th anniversary in the sweltering heat yesterday, and by all accounts it was another great day.
As well as the rubber duckies racing down the River Flit, there were food and drink provided by hosts the Bangkok Lounge, stalls, a bouncy castle and a raffle – with money raised going to Acorn Pre-School and the Mighty Oaks school club.
Acorn Pre-School is the only community pre-school in Shefford and, as a charity, it relies heavily on funds raised at events like the Shefford Duck Race.
Bangkok Lounge boss Motin Miah said: “We were delighted to host the event again this year, especially as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Duck Race.
“We pride ourselves on working closely with the community and love to give something back. It was a hugely enjoyable day for all the family and local residents.”
There’s another duck race this coming weekend at Arlesey’s Glebe Meadow Nature Reserve.
Ducks will splash into the River Purwell at 2.30pm this Sunday. Games, a barbecue and refreshments will also be on offer.
