Sharon Taylor, the Labour and Co-Operative Party parliamentary candidate for Stevenage, has welcomed the news that Hertfordshire County Council have approved plans to rebuild the Thomas Alleynes School on a site in Great Ashby.

The County Council's Development Control Committee met on Tuesday to agree the move, as part of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme. They had previously deferred the decision, after Conservative and Liberal Democrat Councillors asked that alternative sites be considered, including St Nicholas Park in Stevenage.

Sharon Taylor said,

"I am delighted that Hertfordshire County Council have at last approved the site in Great Ashby for the new Thomas Alleynes School. The alternative location considered, St Nicholas Park, is a well used and vital leisure and recreation facility for everyone that lives nearby and I know that many local people were shocked at the possibility of losing it.
