Sharon Taylor, Labour's parliamentary candidate for Stevenage, recently visited MBDA to meet with staff, speak with some of their young apprentices and take a tour of the site's facilities.
With over 1,600 staff in Stevenage, MBDA is one of the top three employers in the town together with Astrium and GlaxoSmithKline, as well as being an active part of the community sponsoring local events such as the Pride of Stevenage Awards.
During her visit, Sharon met with some of the many young people who are currently completing engineering apprenticeships with the company and discussed the issues concerning them ahead of the General Election, such as affordable housing.
Sharon visit also coincided with the Ministry of Defence's announcement of an agreed interim partnering agreement with MBDA - worth up to 4 billion over the next decade - which will cover the development and supply of new Complex Weapons to the country's Armed Forces against current and future threats.
Sharon said:
"MBDA is truly one of the leading companies in our community and I was extremely impressed by what I saw during my visit. The transformation of the site over the past thirteen years has been extraordinary and I was very pleased to hear about the government's continued investment in one the town's our greatest assets.
