AN INNOVATIVE CD which allows viewers to see how their town has changed is set for release.

The CD Exploring Hitchin was created by Alan Fleck after he noticed how the town had changed after walking around the streets while convalescing following a car accident.

On the CD, which has taken almost five years to put together, Mr Fleck has married up old and new pictures of the town - the oldest entry stems from 1494 - to give viewers the chance to go on an interactive time trek. The CD can also be updated on a regular basis.

In all Mr Fleck, a Hitchin resident, took 1,500 pictures of the town and has combined many of these with older photographs in the Hitchin Museum collection as well as a large number of historical documents.

Mr Fleck, who works as a community development officer for North Hertfordshire District Council, said: "Exploring Hitchin is about the buildings, the people who worked in the buildings and about how the town developed."

The CD has just been published by Hitchin Historical Society.

Mr Fleck signed copies at Hitchin Museum and in Eric Moore's Bookshop on Saturday and will be doing the same at Waterstone's in Hitchin Market Place from 2pm this Saturday (November 4). The CD costs £9.95.
