A CCTV image has been released today after a dog was stolen from a homeless man in Stevenage.

It shows a man the police want to speak to in connection with the theft of the female black and white Staffordshire bull terrier from outside Poundland in the town centre.

She was stolen when the dog’s owner tied her up outside the store in Queensway while he went inside at 2pm back on February 2.

The police believe the animal was then taken on a train travelling towards Letchworth.

PCSO Anne Charters is investigating and said: “We are extremely keen to find this man, as we believe he may have information about the whereabouts of the dog.

“The staffie has been a constant companion to its owner and went everywhere with him. Obviously the owner is extremely upset about the disappearance of his dog and is desperate for her safe return.

“We believe the dog may have been taken on board a train at Stevenage train station shortly after it was taken. The train was headed for Letchworth.”

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
