Darren Sarll has confirmed that he will use the January transfer window to strengthen his Stevenage side.

The Boro boss added 14 players to his squad in the summer and is looking to make further additions in the New Year, stressing the importance of the mid-season window.

Sarll told the Comet: “I absolutely expect to do business in the transfer window.

“If there are elements of your team not working there are two key months you get that sorted, August and January.

“We obviously have to work to a budget and the chairman is renowned for running such a well organised ship.

“But, if there is someone out there who can improve us, he supports his manager and the first-team in getting the best of what they can get.

“We’ll go out there and do our best to acquire a player than can do that for us.

“It’s going to be an important month because the windows are so few and far between.

“You can’t do the 28-day or 93-day loan anymore so the windows are absolutely crucial.

“However, we have to wait till the back end before we get any work done.”

Chairman Phil Wallace confirmed in an official club statement that players will depart in order to ‘reduce the squad size’ with Blair Turgott the first to leave, joining Boreham Wood on a free transfer.

However, Sarll does not expect any of his best players to leave and believes that Wallace will do what is best for the club’s finances.

“We know we’ve got some fabulous young players that are well touted around the country,” said 34-year-old Sarll.

“Our best players will stay but we are in League Two so there is a price accessible to more teams because of that.

“The chairman will have his finger on that button the whole time and he will do what is best for the football club, as he has always done.

“If there is something that improves the club financially then he will press the button, which businessman wouldn’t?”
