Police are hunting for an Audi driver after an on-duty officer suffered serious leg injuries in a Sandy collison this afternoon.

A black Audi A5 failed to stop for police in Sunderland Road at around 3.50pm, injuring the officer in a subsequent crash. The car then raced away towards the town centre.

The officer – who was responding to concerns about the welfare of an 18-year-old woman – has been taken to hospital.

Police confirmed they are working to trace the occupants of the vehicle, and anyone with information is asked to call the Bedfordshire force on 101.
