David O’Mahony – who recently appeared in The Bodyguard at London’s Adelphi Theatre – supported the pupils during rehearsals and led a Q&A session with the students.

The musical was called A Night at the Movies, and featured songs from different films and shows including Les Misérables, High School Musical, Shrek and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Students of all ages worked together as the cast, technical crew, stage crew and orchestra to put on three performances, which were seen by 600 visitors.

Samuel Whitbread teacher Charlotte Tarbert said: “We’ve put in more than 120 hours rehearsing over the last six months. We all worked so hard. It was so much fun and went really well. I’ve loved every minute of it and can’t wait for the next one.”

Year 13 pupil Joel Barrett added: “Having David O’Mahony visit to answer questions and help with scenes was one of the best parts of the process.”
