Drivers were left frustrated this morning after a tractor caused more than 50 vehicles to turn around on a village road between Letchworth and Hitchin during rush hour.

Police were called to Willian Road – in between The Green Man pub and Wymondley Wood Scout and Guide Centre – at about 8am after reports that a large farm vehicle was causing cars to stack up along the road.

The man driving the tractor had tried to let cars past by moving onto the steep bank to the side of the road, but police advised that it was too dangerous for vehicles to pass.

A road block was put in place in Willian Road until about 9.30am to allow the queue of cars to turn around, while – on instruction from the police – the tractor went off towards the A505.
