A horse collided with a car this morning (Tuesday) after it bolted into a country road.
The horse had unseated its rider in woods before colliding with the car in Hitchin Road, Whitwell.
The East of England Ambulance Service attended the incident at 9.34am but the driver of the car and the woman rider did not need hospital treatment. The horse ran back to its stables and was later being checked over by a vet.
Gary Sanderson, the ambulance service's spokesman said: "Both the driver of the car, and the woman riding the horse were very lucky not to have been seriously injured.
"It appears that the horse became startled while out in the woods, where it threw its rider off. The horse then ran towards the main road where it collided with a car travelling towards Hitchin.
