Firefighters from Hitchin, Stevenage and Baldock & Letchworth were all called to a mixed waste blaze in Hitchin last night.

Crews received a call at about 8.40pm last night to a commercial property in Bury Mead Road, with Stevenage’s aerial ladder platform used to help put out the fire.

The location of the blaze was not far from Cadwell Lane, where there was a huge electrical waste fire tackled by crews across the county the day before.

Herts police were quick to make it clear last night neither were being treated as arson or linked, posting on Twitter: “We would like to reassure residents following a fire in Hitchin tonight. We were called to Bury Mead Road at 8.50pm.

“As this is the second incident in two days at a business premises in Hitchin, we wanted to confirm these incidents are not believed to be arson.”
