The dawn chorus is very early at this time of year, so why not try a dusk chorus instead? Join an evening tour of The Lodge nature reserve, on Friday 7 July, when you can unwind at the end of the week to the sound of bird song. If the weather is fine, we may see bats and hobbies hunting chafer beetles, and if it is wet then we may see natterjack toads. This tour starts at 7.30pm and ends as it gets dark so bring a torch. There is a free tour of the conservation area of Sandy Heath Quarry on Sunday, starting at 2pm. A guided walk on Thursday, July 13 explores the grassland and birch woodland of Sandy Ridge, starting at 2pm,.which was added to The Lodge nature reserve last summer. There is a charge of £2 for both the tours, plus the entrance fee if you are not an RSPB member. All tours start from the Gatehouse at the entrance to the nature reserve. Please call in at The Lodge shop, or phone 01767 680541 to book places on these events.
