A motorist was lucky to escape unhurt after his car burst into flames on Canterbury Way, Stevenage, this afternoon (Tuesday).
The incident happened at 3.20pm, when the motorist was driving his Vauxhall Vectra along Canterbury Way towards the Great Ashby roundabout and he noticed smoke and flames coming from under the bonnet of his car.
He managed to call the emergency services on his mobile, after getting clear of the vehicle. Firefighters from Stevenage attended the incident and two crew members wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire.
Police also closed the road during the incident, which lasted almost 20 minutes.
