An 18th-century manor house was the most expensive residential property sold in North Hertfordshire during 2017, according to new Land Registry data.

The new data shows that Manor House, in Old Knebworth’s Park Lane, cost £3.6 million when it was sold last year – almost four times as much as the most expensive residential property in neighbouring Stevenage.

Across the border in Bedfordshire, the most expensive price paid for property in the SG postcodes was the £1.65 million forked out for 20 Ampthill Road in Shefford.

In North Hertfordshire district, the top 10 most expensive properties of 2017 were:

9. Silver Birches, Danesbury Park Road, Welwyn – £1,567,000

10. 27 Blackmore Way, Wheathampstead – £1,510,000

For Stevenage, the most expensive properties were:

1. 5 High Street – £935,000

2. 36 Rectory Lane – £930,000

3. 8 Bragbury Lane – £707,500

4. 2 Nicholas Place – £700,000

5. 130 Fairview Road – £687,500

6. 130 Chancellors Road – £665,850

7. 4 Fishers Green – £650,000

8. 7 Turner Close – £640,000

9/10. 10 The Brambles and 8 Whitney Drive – both £625,000

In Central Bedfordshire’s SG postcodes, the top 10 were:

3. Furzenhall Farm, Furzenhall Road, Biggleswade – £1,100,000
