RESIDENTS and businesses have joined the fight against crime and disorder by working together to keep watch on the community.

Extra eyes and ears will be keeping criminals at bay after the Neighbourhood Watch scheme was launched in every road in Walkern.

PCSO Sarah Brown said: "It's clear that there is still a great sense of community spirit in Walkern. The scheme continues to go from strength to strength, with the majority of residents having joined.

"A lot of hard work has gone into setting this scheme up and I am confident that we will see greater information sharing, increased community spirit and hopefully a reduction in crime and disorder.

"As well as making the neighbourhood a better place to live and work, tackling local problems and concerns will help people to feel less nervous about crime - especially those who are elderly or vulnerable for other reasons."
