The multi-million pound regeneration to improve Eastcheap and Leys Avenue in Letchworth GC has suffered a setback after special stone road blocks laid by hand over months were ripped up yesterday (Wednesday).
Resident Valerie Graham was outraged as she watched builders from contractors Skanska, hired by Letchworth Garden City Heritage Foundation, dig up the blocks and dump them in a lorry.
She said: "People are up in arms about it. It's a shocking waste of money. The town's in a mess as it is.
