Record stores in Hitchin, Letchworth and Baldock celebrated Record Store Day at the weekend with live music and offers on music.
David’s Music welcomed customers to enjoy a wide range of live talent in celebration of everything vinyl – and Hitchin’s Rags n Wax provided music throughout the morning, with live performances beginning at 1pm.
Ashlie from David’s Music said: “It was another fantastic Record Store Day at David’s Music. We had a queue of people waiting for us – some had queued for a long time, they were so dedicated.
“Everyone was in fantastic spirits and we sold loads of the amazing limited edition releases. The whole day was like one big party and we’re really grateful for the support on Record Store Day – and also throughout the year.”
Hitchin’s Gatefold Record Lounge took part in its Record Store Day celebrations, which included DJ sets and food from Cantina Carnitas keeping customers well fed and entertained as they shopped for their exclusive records.
Co-owner Nicola Utley told the Comet: “This was our second time taking part in Record Store Day and it was even better than last year.
“We had our first customer queuing for almost 24 hours outside our shop. It was awesome – we got to see loads of our customers going away really happy with their exclusive releases, and there was such a great atmosphere.
“It’s such a vital day for independent record shops as it reminds record collectors to use their local record shops over the big high street and online stores. Retail is such a difficult industry to be in so it’s fantastic that we have this day to give us a boost and introduce new customers to us.
“We loved every second and appreciate every single person who walked through our door – bring on next year!”
This year was the first year Stylus Lounge in Baldock has taken part in Record Store Day, having opened its doors back in November. They also enlisted the talents of local DJs and ‘up-and-coming’ artists.
Co-owner Jason Kitchener said: “Being our first Record Store Day we didn’t quite know what to expect – it’s such a huge event – but we had a queue which was quite important for us. The whole day was enjoyed by everybody. We’re already going to start planning for next year, as we could probably double everything.”
