A mayor says his town was snubbed during the royal visit.

Sandy mayor Cllr David Gale feels he should have been invited to attend the opening of Mid Beds District Council offices at Chicksands and also been on hand to say goodbye to the Queen when the royal train left Sandy station later in the afternoon.

"As a matter of protocol the town council should have been informed the Queen was in Sandy," said Cllr Gale.

"I don't think she has ever been to Sandy before and I would have certainly been on civic duty had I been asked to say goodbye.

"We never knew she was coming to the town and never had an invitation from Mid Beds District Council which was sad.
