A REBEL group fighting to prevent another quarry on their village's doorstep say they are determined to continue their fight despite a long period of silence.

The group was formed after The Comet exclusively revealed in April that Tarmac planned to open a new quarry on a 260 acre site south of Broom.

Next week the protest group will hold its second public meeting as Tarmac prepare to submit plans to Bedfordshire County Council.

The meeting will be held on Thursday evening at Broom Village Hall starting at 8.15pm.

A group member said: "As well as the meeting providing an opportunity for people to air their views about the quarry issue, the interim committee will report back to the community enabling all interested persons to be informed of, and able to assess, the actions and progress of the interim committee since its formation at the public meeting in May."

This week Tarmac said they were putting the final touches to the planning application and hopes to submit it by the end of the month.
