A meadow between two Hitchin nature reserves is to go up for sale by auction next month.

The 4.71-acre site, on Green Belt land off Chaucer Way, is just south-east of the Purwell Meadows Nature Reserve run by North Herts District Council and north-west of the Purwell Ninesprings Nature Reserve managed by the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust.

The field, owned by Lloyd and Lee Sinclair, is to be auctioned by Lambert Smith Hampton at Le Meridien in London’s Piccadilly on Monday, July 7.

The guide price for the freehold is £120,000. The site is described in the auction listing as suitable for “grazing, equestrian, agricultural and possible future development subject to obtaining any necessary consents”.

Asked about the development potential of the site, the district council told this paper it had no comment.
