Pupils visit council chambers after launching project to spruce up alleyway
Children from Peartree Spring Primary School were invited to visit Stevenage Borough Council’s headquarters last week after they worked with the council to clear an alleyway they use on their journeys to school.
Council staff had worked with the children to spruce up the alleyway and the pupils had lots of exciting ideas for making it a fun and inviting place to walk through.
Council staff joined the children, parents and school staff for a litter picking session to start the project off after the school council’s eco team and rights respecting pupil leaders championed the cause.
The school’s curriculum leader Mijke Pechey, said: “We have the opportunity to turn this forgotten alleyway into a bright and welcoming space that will start the school day off on a cheerful note and make it more pleasant for everyone in the community to walk through.”
Leader of SBC Sharon Taylor and town mayor Pam Stuart showed the children around the council chamber last week and gave them an insight into how the council works.
